ISN Maskwa offers Indigenous individuals the opportunity to train in Wildland Firefighting to support and protect their communities should the need arise. This training began with many of the Mushkegowuk communities that have been forging a path towards self-reliance in the face of wildfires. ISN Maskwa has been there to support them by providing in class and hands on wildfire training.
Under the guidance of certified ISN Maskwa trainers, the focus of this training is to learn the SP 103/105/106 MNRF Forest Fire Suppression Training. Through classroom and practical exercises, participants learn various skills that not only come in handy for wildfires but also fit seamlessly in all of the community fire department operations.
Armed with this training and equipment, the successful graduates of the course will be able to combat wildfires this summer, both on and off reserve.
