ISN Maskwa offers Indigenous individuals from across the province the opportunity to train in Incident Management Systems (IMS), levels 100 to 300, and Basic Emergency Management Systems (BEMS). The overall goal is to train, deploy and mentor Indigenous incident command teams to provide incident command during Indigenous evacuations. The training is premium, experiential hands-on learning that is based upon Indigenous emergencies.
Like the CSP training, the entire IMS/BEMS training is sponsored for Indigenous students including travel, accommodations, and expenses covered for those who travel in for the course. Furthermore, an honorarium is provided to all who successfully complete the training.
ISN Maskwa has successfully completed one IMS/ICS training course that saw 21 graduates, many of which have gone on to obtain essential emergency management roles within their bands, their tribal councils, the Nishnawbe Aski Nation and deployments with ISN Maskwa. A two additional training programs focused on IMS/BEMS were successfully completed, boasting 45 more graduates. Notable, many of these graduates have been promptly deployed to ISN Maskwa host sites to assist with flood and fire evacuations following their training.
