Canada’s first Indigenous Emergency Operations Centre (IEOC) is operated by Missanabie Cree First Nations – ISN Maskwa. This IEOC is located in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabek, whose continued rights and interests are recognized by the Robinson Treaties of 1850. the IEOC provides Indigenous communities with 24/7 response response to emergency situations. The situations can include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Search and Rescue
  • Critical Incidents
  • Mass Evacuations (Floods, Wildfires)

The IEOC works in partnership with the community and funding partners to provide an Indigenous-led response. Contacting the IEOC Duty Officer connects the community directly to First Nation-Led decision makers in times of emergency.
