A Community Safety and Well-Being Plan is a well, thought-out collection of strategies, objectives and tactics put together by Maskwa. Its purpose is in supporting Indigenous communities by utilizing our trained professionals whose goals are to put to use the best methods to achieve the greatest results.

In March 2019, the provincial government implemented changes to the public service act, which requires each municipality to create and implement a community safety and well-being plan. A CSWB plan is a collaboration of agencies that identify risk factors in the community and develop protective measures in response. It is a multi-step process that includes engagement from a variety of stakeholders, the sharing of data and identification of risks. Maskwa aims to see the CSWB plans become a necessary piece within all Indigenous bands across the province.

The planning process of a CSWB is broken down into 3 phases:

Phase 1 – Research and Engagement

Maskwa will complete all community engagements and provisions of the CSWB plan. This includes working with the band’s Chief and Council to identify community partners for engagement, for example, social services agencies, educators, Elders, police partners, etc., and facilitating the engagement sessions.

Phase 2 – Draft CSWB Plan

Maskwa will draft a ministry compliant CSWB plan based on the engagement from phase 1 to circulate electronically amongst the key participants for input, including partnered/neighbouring municipalities, if applicable. Maskwa will also provide an array of reference materials for future use, including risk factors and protective measures.

Phase 3 – Creation & Delivery of Final CSWB Plan

Once the draft plan has been approved by the Chief and Council, Maskwa will meet with the key participants to review feedback and facilitate the creation of the final plan, which will be provided for public presentation at the band’s discretion.
